I work principally from abstraction with a particular interest in colour resonance and surface tension. My current painting is influenced by observed organic and mineral forms. Of particular interest are growths and corrosive elements that have the capacity to transform surfaces.
A study in traditional oil painting method using many layers of transparent glaze and opaque has enabled an exploration of optical effect and the dynamic of brushstroke.
Academic research in art and psychosis and ongoing clinical work with children informs my art practice. Their pure joy in observation, line and mark making has rekindled a personal endeavour in drawing practice.
Time in Cuba enabled a study in the cultural engagement of art and a recent stay in Paris infused a deep fascination in the sensitivity of shifting light and the inherent interplay of Titian like colour veils and texture
