Hui Yuan Christina Sun

Hui Yuan Christina Sun (b.1999) lives and works in Sydney, Australia. She holds a Bachelor of Design in Architecture (Honours I), from the University of Sydney. Her work has been exhibited in galleries across Sydney and Canberra, and a finalist in prizes including the National Inaugural Art Prize (2021) and Works on Paper Prize (2021). In 2022, she exhibited and sold works at the Affordable Art Fair (Sydney). In June 2025, she exhibited works in Orangerie Gallery, Munich, Germany and Brunswick Street Gallery, VIC, Australia, with an upcoming solo exhibition in October 2025 at Chauffeur Gallery, Sydney.

Sun explores spatial experiences through voyeuristic frames found in urban landscapes. Inspired deeply by her tertiary studies in architectural design, Sun creates scenes which magnify the ambience of spatial moments through colour and volume. Each work finds a new way of ‘breaking the fourth wall’ by puncturing the frame, allowing the viewer to step in to become part of the work. Her current series investigates the psychology of lingering in momentary architecture ‘interstitial spaces’ meant for passing through - a guard watchtower, a bridge, a subway station, a harbourside pier, a train carriage.
