Marisa Murray
Marisa is an Argentinian Australian artist who has worked in fine arts and design for 3 decades. She utilises symbology, layering and responsive mark making to unfold the experience of her unique internal world. She has been working with paint, inks and drawing, with focus on ‘the life of the mark’ for the entirety of her career.
In her ‘Entanglement’ series, the interwoven layers of her mark making entwine to capture the multifaceted nature of thought, being and presentation. The organic, intuitive and responsive nature of her mark making and layering are both inward and outward facing. She challenges the viewer to understand and question the nature of thought and feeling whilst carefully curating overall outward impressions.
Marisa has completed design studies at a Bachelor level in Visual Communication from the University of Technology Sydney, majoring in photography. She also spent some time in New Zealand, where she studied various fine art courses at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, and in 2000 was a NZ finalist in the global Winsor & Newton Worldwide Millennium Painting Competition.
